Sailing Venues

Sailing Venues

The Manx Model Boat Club uses 3 main venues for sailing which are located at Silverdale, Onchan Park at Ramsey Mooragh Park. We also use the Ramsey Courthouse building for static displays.

Silverdale

Silverdale lake is located in Silvedale Glen which is just outside the village of Ballasalla in the south of the island. The lake is fresh water and is our main venue for holding events during the summer plus our regular Sunday morning sailing sessions throughout the year.

Onchan Park

Onchan Park is located in Onchan which is just outside Douglas. The lake is fresh water and is our main venue for evening sailing during the summer season. The lake is manmade with concrete walls which makes it ideal for launching and recovering boats. The lake is used by electrically powered pleasure boats during the day.

Mooargh Lake

The Mooragh lake is located in Mooragh Park in Ramsey which is in the north of the island. The lake is salt water filled by the sea on a high tide. The lake is mainly used for yachting events, although scale models can be sailed provided you don't mind getting your model covered in salt spray.

Ramsey Courthouse

Although not a 'sailing venue', we do use the Ramsey Courthouse building for a static model display. The Courthouse building is located in Ramsey town center and is ideally situated to attract members of the public to view our models.
