Welcome to the

Manx Model Boat Club

Model Boating on the Isle of Man

Introduction

The Manx Model Boat Club was formed in the Isle of Man in 1985 by a small number of enthusiasts and currently has approximately 30 members. Most of our members live on the Isle of Man, but we also have a number of ‘overseas’ members who regularly visit and sail with us. Our membership are interested in all aspects of Model Boating from Scale Models, Speed Boats, Submarines, Hovercraft, Vintage Yachts, Static Dioramas and even ships in bottles!

About the Club

We consider the Winter to be the building season with many of our members actively involved with building new models ready for the sailing during the Summer, which usually starts at Easter and runs through until October. During the summer season we organise numerous events for the scale boats, usually on a monthly basis. The club also displays its boats at exhibitions and holds demonstration events in aid of local charities.

The club uses three main Sailing Venues spread across the Island, which means that club members do not have to travel very far to sail. In the Douglas area we use Onchan Park boating lake, in the North of the Island we use the Ramsey Mooragh Park lake and in the South we use Silverdale Glen lake.

The club produces a regular newsletter  which is available to all its members and keeps them up to date with reports from club events, new fixtures and general information relating to model boating.

The emphasis within the club is on the mutual enjoyment of two pleasures, modelling and boating; and by being a member of the Manx Model Boat Club you can meet others with similar interests, get help and information, make new friends and have some very pleasant afternoons sailing.

If you are interested in joining our club, or would just like some more information, then please click on the e-mail link below, or come along to one of our events and talk to those members who are sailing.

Club subs for 2024 are:

£25 for adults & O.A.P.’s.

£10 for overseas members (not normally resident in the Isle of Man)

£10 for non sailing members / helpers

£10 for juniors (still in full time education)
