Welcome to the Manx Model Boat Club and our hobby of Model Boating. The club was formed in the Isle of Man in 1985 by a small number of enthusiasts and now 39 years on it has approximately 30 members. Our membership are interested in all aspects of Model Boating from Scale Models, Speed Boats, Submarines and Yachts to building static historical models and even ships in bottles! Click here to read a copy of our Club Constitution and Operating Rules.

We consider the Winter to be the building season with many of our members actively involved with building new models ready for the sailing during the Summer, which usually starts at Easter and runs through until October. During the summer season we organise numerous events for the scale boats, usually on a monthly basis. The club also displays its boats at exhibitions and holds demonstration events in aid of local charities.

Our main event during the summer season is Mannanan. This is a 2 day model boating event which attracts modellers from most parts of the UK as well as local modellers. The first day of the event is a steering competition followed by a Tug Towing competition and then on the second day we have an 'On the Water' competition followed by a Static Scale Competition, Tfinishing off with a fun competition. The event finishes with an evening meal and prize presentation. For more information please click on the Mannanan link above, or for an entry form please click here.

Full details of this years sailing events may be seen in our Fixture List.

The club uses three main Sailing Venues spread across the Island, which means that club members do not have to travel very far to sail. In the Douglas area we use Onchan Park boating lake, in the North of the Island we use the Ramsey Mooragh Park lake and in the South we use Silverdale Glen lake. Sailing generally takes place on Sunday afternoons and Thursday evenings during the sailing season with most pools being used by a small groups of our club members.

The club produces a newsletter every three months which is available to all its members and keeps them up to date with reports from club events, new fixtures and general information relating to model boating. The club holds its Annual Dinner and Prize Presentation in the late Autumn and its AGM towards the end of November.

The emphasis within the club is on the mutual enjoyment of two pleasures, modelling and boating; and by being a member of the Manx Model Boat Club you can meet others with similar interests, get help and information, make new friends and have some very pleasant afternoons sailing.

If you are interested in joining our club, or would just like some more information, then please E-Mail me with your comments, or if you live on the Island just turn up at one of our events and ask those members who are sailing.

Club subs for 2024 are:

£25 for adults & O.A.P.'s.

£10 for overseas members (not normally resident in the Isle of Man)

£10 for non sailing members / helpers

£10 for juniors (still in full time education)
